At Darby Christian Academy, our mission is to equip homeschool families and students to discern truth, pursue goodness, and delight in beauty through a robust Christian education. We believe in nurturing the whole child and fostering a love for learning that aligns with our Christian values.
We exist to resource (not replace) parents as the primary educators of their children. We do this through our unique community school model, which consists of two campus days of classroom instruction and three homeschool days a week, using lesson plans crafted by our teachers and administered by parents. This is a dedicated partnership between the school and the family.
We set about our mission and administer our model using a Christian Classical approach. This involves an emphasis on the trivium and the quadrivium, cultivating wonder, reading great books, and developing a Christian worldview.
Darby Christian Academy is a homeschool ministry of Darby Community Church.
We have been serving local families and other churches since 2013.
Each campus day begins with a school-wide chapel service led by Pastor Mark. Parents are welcome to attend. Scripture is incorporated into everything we do at DCA, from memorization and songs, to the historical study of ancient civilizations, to weighing ideas and moral claims, and to understanding the world in light of its Creator.
We walk alongside parents to disciple their own children through daily Bible time, offering scheduled Bible / Bible storybook readings, Scripture memory, Catechism questions, and hymns/spiritual songs to deepen their own relationship with our God and their children.
Numbers reflect the order of God's universe, and even God Himself, who is a three-in-one Trinity. Math helps students to marvel at the precision of God's created order, to appreciate the numeric themes of the Bible, and to be faithful stewards of what He has given (problem-solving, time management, budgeting, etc.).
We allow families to choose from several of the best math programs so that children can learn in the style that works best for them, at a pace that allows for mastery and also acceleration.
Language is the gift of an intelligible, Word-speaking God. It is one of the traits that uniquely sets mankind above all creatures. Students are immersed in classic literature that trains their palette to savor beautiful language, that teaches them the structure of skillful communication, and reveals deep, soul-cultivating themes. Through language, stories, and themes we are ultimately pointed back to the Greatest Story and its Author.
Explicit grammar and composition is taught only after a child has mastered reading through a strong foundation in phonics and studied some of the best authors through consistent copywork.
History is the story of God's dealings with humanity. It tells us where we came from, and helps shape where we're going. It is the cosmic drama of God's plan for mankind, the tragedy of sin's impact on the world, and the redemptive work of Jesus Christ within time and space.
Through history we learn of the battle between good and evil that has spanned the ages - not simply between empires, but in the heart of every man.
Students find their place in this story through living books and source material, as well history text spines to ground studies chronologically.
Science reveals the order and cycles of the created order, which allows us to responsibly cultivate it for God's glory and our benefit. Not only is this practical for wise living in everything from administering medicine to fixing a car, but it ought to result in awe for the creativity, power, and love of the Creator.
We take advantage of our five-acre property to surround students with creation, cultivate their wonder for its beauty, and pursue their curiosity over its intelligent design. K-2 are especially immersed in nature through nature studies.
3-12 have specific areas of study each year (ranging from astronomy, biology, anatomy, physics, and beyond).
K-5 have varying electives each semester, with past electives being Art, P.E., Spanish, Sign Language, Music, Character studies, etc.
Middle School and High School have a new elective each semester that teach unique aspects of the world. Past electives have included P.E., life skills, finances, drama, art, speech & debate, home economics, and apologetics.
